Opportunity International “unleashes the power of entrepreneurs in the developing world. Their innovative approach and services allow more people to expand their businesses, create jobs and change the world.”
They achieve this by leveraging microfinancing which, “provides small or ‘micro’ loans to people not served by banks because of their poverty, lack of collateral, illiteracy or lack of formal identification documents.”
According to OIC, “Microfinance now encompasses a broad range of financial services for those living in poverty such as credit, savings and insurance. These products are designed to assist people in poverty, who lack access to financial services in the mainstream banking sector, to develop their small businesses, save their earnings, and guard against risks.”
Opportunity International helps support 17.5 million people work their way out of poverty in the developing world
through microlending.

Through this partnership, we’re helping to fund micro loans to budding entrepreneurs in the developing world. We’re providing them with mentoring and resources to support them, their communities—and ultimately to bring more of the world around us out of poverty.⠀
We invited Doris Olafsen, Vice President Philanthropy at OIC, along with OIC Program Director Martha Arias to teach us more about how OIC is making a difference, and the ways we can help support them as a business, and as individuals.
